Media Log #6

I have seen this commercial so many times, so I decided to write a post about it. It can be annoying at times, but it has seemed to grow on me. Everything in the commercial is a dull color, but the cheetos bag pops out because it is bright orange. The lady playing chopsticks with the cheetah doesn't have anything to do with anything really as far as a bag of cheetos goes, but it is an annoying repetitive song that makes their commercial memorable. The phrase at the end is using the begging the question fallacy because the answer to how to take a cheetos break is already in the phrase. You can't take a cheetos break without cheetos, or else its just a break... But they wrote "with cheetos" to make sure. I think my favorite part of this commercial that I never realised until I had to analyze the commercial thoroughly was how they wrote their website. I found it so clever. They put a picture of two cheetos and after they just added ".com" It is so simple and so to the point.

  1. This commercial is like my guilty pleasure. I actually think it is kind of funny just because of the girl's face at the end, I think it is hilarious! However, the cliche of "Chopsticks" is that it is super over-played and annoying. So this guy, is kind of representing that cliche. I think this could be possibly using the "need for aesthetic sensations" because it has the piano and the song. I actually think it's really funny that they don't say "Cheetos" in the commercial, we hear it from the voice over guy. I think it also uses Diversion because "Chopsticks" has nothing to do with Cheetos except that she is playing it with the cheetah. It also uses Plain Folks because these are ordinary people working in a piano shop. Overall, I think this commercial is quite effective because I think it is pretty funny, and I can't help but get that song stuck in my head. Great post!

  2. This is the first time I have ever seen this commercial and I am lovin it! It is definitely funny hitting on the Wit and Humor aspect of the common advertisers techniques. I noticed that in the commercial, everything in the room was mostly dull colors except for the bright cheetos bag in the guys hand the little Cheetos cheetah who was so adorable! I think this commercial also focuses on the need to escape, because it suggests you grab a Cheetos bag when you want to get away from the strees of your day at work, school, etc. Great commerical choice again!
